A LIGHT & NATURAL tWIN NEWBORN SESSION | BALTIMORE, MARYLAND PHOTOGRAPHER
Having a baby is a big deal. Having two at once? There is even more to think about.
Between preparing your home, buying all the tiny things you suddenly need, appointments, feeding, sleeping (or trying to!), and simply adjusting to life with a new baby, there is already so much on your plate. It makes complete sense that booking newborn photos sometimes ends up somewhere near the bottom of the list.
And while some families book their newborn photography session months in advance, others don't start thinking about photos until their baby is already here.
That's exactly what happened with the Muñoz family.
Is Four Weeks Too Late for Newborn Photos?
The Muñoz family reached out to me when their twins were already four weeks old. They knew how quickly the babies were growing and were hoping to have their newborn session as soon as possible, before this tiny stage changed too much.
Thankfully, I was able to respond quickly, find a date that worked for us, and get their session scheduled within the following week.
And I think their session is a perfect reminder that you don't necessarily have to book newborn photography before your baby is born.
Of course, planning ahead can be helpful, especially if you know you want photos and want to make sure there is space on my calendar. But sometimes you don't realize how much you want to remember this stage until you're actually living it.
You bring your baby home. You start noticing their tiny hands, the way they curl up against your chest, the expressions they make while they're sleeping, and how impossibly small they look in their nursery.
And suddenly you think, I want to remember this.
If that's you, reach out anyway.
A Baby-Led Approach to Lifestyle Newborn Photography
My approach to newborn photography is very relaxed, unobtrusive and baby-led.
Rather than creating a session where everything has to be perfectly posed, I want to document what this season of your family's life actually feels like.
I'm mostly hands-off with your baby unless you ask for help or it's needed. Instead, I'll gently guide you into good light or give you a little direction when necessary and then allow moments to unfold naturally.
You might be holding your baby against your chest, soothing them, feeding them, lying together on the bed or simply looking down at them while they sleep.
Those little interactions are what I'm looking for.
There is still guidance throughout the session, so you don't have to worry about knowing what to do in front of the camera. But I don't want to interrupt the connection between you and your baby just to create a photograph.
I want the photograph to come from that connection.
Your Home Is Part of the Story, Too
One of my favorite things about in-home newborn photography in Baltimore is that we're documenting more than what your baby looked like.
We're documenting where this chapter of your family's life began.
Your baby's nursery. Your bedroom. The living room where you've spent countless hours feeding and rocking them. The little details you carefully chose before they arrived.
During a lifestyle newborn session, we can move naturally throughout the home and use the spaces that mean the most to your family and have the best light.
Years from now, those surroundings become part of the memory.
You won't only see how tiny your baby was. You'll remember the room you brought them home to, the chair you always sat in with them, their first nursery and what everyday life looked like when your family was brand new.
With twins, I think that becomes even more special. There are two tiny babies sharing this beginning together, and so many little connections between them and their parents that won't look quite the same for very long.
Your Newborn Session Doesn't Have to Look Like Anyone Else's
Every family comes into a newborn session wanting something a little different.
Some parents really want photographs of the nursery they spent months putting together. Some care most about photographs of everyone together. Others want to remember the tiny details — fingers, toes, sleepy expressions and the way their baby fits into their arms.
You may want plenty of images with your partner. You may want siblings or your family dog included. You might love photographs that feel completely candid, or you may prefer a little more guidance.
That's why I love hearing about your family before we ever begin photographing.
If you're considering a newborn session with me, I highly recommend sending an inquiry or emailing me and telling me what you would most love to document.
Tell me about your baby. Tell me about your home. Tell me which rooms are meaningful to you. Tell me if there's a particular photograph you've been imagining or a part of this season you're afraid you'll forget.
Your newborn photos don't need to follow a formula.
They should feel like your family.
Looking for a Baltimore Lifestyle Newborn Photographer?
Whether you're still pregnant and planning ahead or you're reading this with a newborn already sleeping in your arms, there isn't one "right" time to start thinking about newborn photography.
If you know you'd like a session, booking in advance is always helpful. But if your baby is already here and you've suddenly realized just how quickly they're changing, please don't assume you've missed your chance.
The Muñoz family's twin newborn session came together within about a week of their inquiry, when their babies were already four weeks old.
Sometimes that's simply how life with a new baby goes.
My Baltimore lifestyle newborn photography sessions are relaxed, baby-led and centered around connection. Sessions take place in your home, allowing us to document your baby and your family in the spaces where these early memories are actually being made.
If that sounds like the kind of newborn photography you've been looking for, I'd love to hear about your family and what you hope to remember.
Inquire about a Baltimore in-home newborn photography session and tell me a little about your baby, your family, and the moments you'd most love to document.
